Back to School Night

On August 29, parents of Eaglecrest students showed up on campus to meet their child’s new teachers and get introduced to their new classes. Students volunteered to help with the effort by helping to navigate parents through the complex halls of Eaglecrest. Families had 10 minutes for each period to learn and ask questions about the class, along with counselors to introduce themselves to families in the west hall.

According to the pamphlet given at the event, Gwen Hansen-Vigil states, “Our Eaglecrest staff is committed to partnering with our parent community to help your sons and daughters achieve their highest levels of academic success.”

“I enjoy Back to School Night because I always like to have the opportunity to meet the parents of my students,” Ashley McCulloch reflected on her experience of Back to School Night.

Ashley McCulloch is an English Teacher and leads the Speech and Debate Program here at Eaglecrest.

“10 minutes is usually not a lot of time to get to know parents and introduce class, but the parents are able to meet and establish a relationship with me for events throughout the months ahead as well as for parents to know about my teaching philosophy, grade policy, and the overall idea of what to expect for the year. ”

The event helps teachers and families create an environment in which will help students succeed in all of their classes along with their overall experience throughout the school year. Overall, the event has brought a better relationship between the families of students and teachers, to embrace the idea of Eaglecrest being, “An exemplary learning community focused on preparing each and every student for college success.”
