For the past seven years, College-Readiness day or “Senior day” has been an opportunity for seniors to seek help and support in the college application process. This year, the event took place on Wednesday, October 21st.

Considering the college application season is underway, Fall is an advantage point to seniors to get a head start in this college application process. Counselor trips to English classes in early September explained what College-Readiness day is and gave an understanding of such beforehand. What the seniors needed to do to prepare was a second step: a change from the before years of holding this event.

This event has been held for several years, and for six of those it was mandatory for seniors to be on campus. Beforehand Seniors came to school and learned about opportunities that colleges provide through power points and meeting with counselors. This year, the seventh, a more applicable and independent experience is introduced.

Conveniently- testing for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors landed within the timeframe of understanding application process and beginning to figure out the submission process to colleges for Seniors. Contrary to the previous years, this seventh year was one outside of classroom and school boundaries. Seniors are welcome to go out to college visits, work on their applications with English teachers, military recruiters, or to simply come in to see their counselors if they were stuck in a part of an application process. Also, various topic presentations were also provided at the school, as in ‘financial aid and want to do once you get that acceptance letter’ and “registering for classes.”

As a result, Seniors this year were able to take advantage of the time given to “get stuff done,” and the counselor’s hope to keep this new arrangement of Senior Day as the way it is held from now on.
