Styling Sweeney Todd
Eaglecrest Theatre cast & crew come together to construct the set for the Spring musical.
On Saturday, the Eaglecrest theatre department tech crew and cast joined together to build the set for the spring musical, Sweeney Todd.
The musical takes place in 19th century England and is centered around a barber, Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years in prison, planning to get revenge on the judge who sentenced him.
The set is what several cast and crew members describe as “prop heavy” and requires a lot of construction.
During the nine hour day, the cast and crew created multiple store fronts on what was previously an empty stage.
“We started at 8:10 and it’s 2:50 and we’re still not done with this.” said freshman Lilly Klosowski, who was putting together the support construct for one of the props.
For some the day was full of frustration.
“The hardest part of today has probably been the amount of people there are,” said junior Sarah Jenkins, “Everyone’s willing to help and that’s fantastic, but it’s always so hectic and really overwhelming sometimes.”
But for others it was an opportunity to connect with more cast and crew members.
“The hardest part of today was waking up early,” said sophomore Emily Glide.
In the end, the nine hour day was productive and successful. The joint cast and crew were able to put together most of the set, down to the little details.
“I like to make sure every piece is perfect,” said senior Madison Harris, “because the more effort you put into it, the better the show will be.”
