Sarah J. Maas’ new book, Catwoman: Soulstealer (DC Icons #3),  sends a great message in the strength of women. Similar to her other series’ Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses, Maas has continued to reflect the ways women influence our world. In book three of the DC Icons series, Selina Kyle is back to cause trouble in Gotham City. As her alias Catwoman, Selina Kyle is out to test the patience of Batwing.

Batman is off on a vital mission, leaving Luke Fox, also known as Batwing, to keep the city safe.  With no room for distraction, Batwing is eager to prove his capabilities in keeping the people of Gotham City safe. Accompanied by Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Catwoman catches the attention of Batwing, on her mission to wreak havoc in Gotham City. Immensely focused on performing her biggest heist yet, Selina finds herself to be caught in the clutches of distraction, when it comes to her new intriguing neighbor. Forming an unexpected friendship, Selina suddenly has more to think about, especially when it comes to the mysteriously handsome, Luke Fox.

With her portrayal of Catwoman, Maas does an impeccable job inspiring the greatness of being unique. She continuously repeats the ways that being unique is better than following the routines of being normal. With encouraging the strength of women and redefining the ideal ways of life, Maas  represents a voice for any person lacking the confidence in themselves.With a light storyline on the unexpected way love can come into your life, the book also demonstrates an underlying lesson of loving someone as they are.

The writing could be a bit repetitive a times, for instance the overuse of the word purr, but was still organized intelligently with the twists and turns of events throughout the story. The ending of the book was also predictable, but the variety of unexpected situations that occurred held my attention throughout.

Overall, the novel was very enjoyable. As the third book in the series, I would encourage people to read the first two books, Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo and Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu. These are standalone novels, but they are also very enjoyable to reads that don’t need to be read in any order. The entire series has been very good so far, and I can’t wait for it to continue with Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt de la Pena, expected to be published in 2019.

If you are looking for a fun read, I highly recommend Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas. As such an entertaining read, it is sure to keep you engaged for the entire book.  Catwoman: Soulstealer, along with the rest of the DC Icons series, is a great read anytime, and is definitely worth your time to read.
