Swim and Dive Wrap Up Their Season
February 2, 2018
The season for Eaglecrest Swim and Dive is nearly coming to an end as the teams have to embrace goodbyes to their loved seniors.
Some of them will be crossing the finish line for their very last time or hitting the board for their final dive at the leagues meet held today, February 2, and tomorrow, February 3.
Others have already qualified for the state meet being held on February 9-10.
State qualifiers will be easily noticeable because they have a tradition of dying their hair purple to get in the spirit of the big meet.
The State Championship meet is truly a fight to be qualified to compete against the top of the top swimmers and divers in Colorado.
Kim Nguyen qualified for the 50 Free with a time of 25.71 seconds.
Nguyen also qualified for the 200 free relay with her teammates Maddie Crespo, Makayla Popovich, and Bree Ervin.
Nguyen’s team for the season for the 200 medley relay made a state qualification as well.
Her teammates for this race are Maddie Crespo, Makayla Popovich, and Courtney Menefee.
Nguyen made it to state her sophomore year in the 50 free.
Sam Demos considers this year’s season to be success, “I learned so many new skills.”
Amber Smith qualified for dive and says her main goal for the state meet is “to make every dive count.”
Senior night was on January 23 and was truly a night to be remembered as many seniors say goodbye.
The meet was against the rival Cherokee Trail Cougars who put up a strong fight against our Raptors.
Grace Benskin was one of the beloved team captains this season who will truly be missed.
Benskin has been a part of the team all four years of high school along with her older sister Gwen who was also a former team captain and knows it’ll be hard to let go.
