New Beginnings

Hannah Khalil, Editor-in-Chief

December is a time of transitions. Some may be celebrating the season of holidays and giving while others wait in anticipation of a new year. Often times, there’s a continual sense of anticipation that comes with the closing of yet another chapter in our lives. What will be on the other side? Will this year be as __ as the last one?

What many seem to forget is that change is never ending. The last and first months of a year seem to always come as a marker of this change; however shifts in our everyday lives are constantly happening. Although it may be difficult to recognize, your personality, your beliefs, and even humans in general are a part of a constant cycle of change. These fluctuations shape who we are and who we will become.

At your very own student-run publication, The Eagle Quill, we’ve also endured life’s subtle transformations. Over the past year, we’ve overcome changes in leadership, staff, and even the forms in which we exist as a media publication. Through the hardships we’ve faced in creating each issue and crafting every story, we’ve morphed and adapted in a process of ebb and flow that has completely shaped the newspaper you are currently reading. The unique thing about this process we’ve endured, is the fact although some transitions occurred out of necessity, most of it came in a beautiful and uncomfortable process of organic change.

Life is truly a constant cycle of this organic change and we at The Eagle Quill believe it is important to look towards shifts in life as an element of the ever-occurring growth process. The New Year may seem like a great time to drop old habits and start new, but the actuality of life is that every day is another chance to come closer towards your goals, whatever they may be. Embrace the you you’ve always wanted to be every morning and not merely every January.
