Black History Month: The Raptor Way
Though near it’s end, February’s celebrations of Black History Month have echoed throughout the halls of Eaglecrest over the course of this past month. Students and teachers of African American descent came together this month to appreciate the triumphs of African Americans and celebrate the various languages and cultures that make up what we know as African American heritage.
Alongside other displays of African American achievement, Sisterhood decided to demonstrate its cultural pride by writing powerful quotes from black leaders along our main windows adjacent to the theater and cafeteria. These quotes, printed in colorful inks and a variety of handwriting styles, brought Black History Month and the members of Sisterhood alive through motivational words that brought a new perspective to the daily happenings of Eaglecrest student life
“We use quotes in our meetings, and we look at inspirational quotes throughout the year. [We value] Anything we can do to bring it to the forefront of people’s attention; it has to be ongoing,” says Sisterhood sponsor, Mrs.Glasgow.
Whether the background of theater practices or a simple change of scenery, students took to the messages displayed on our windows in February, which shed a new light on a lesser known club and, quite literally, shed light onto the words and works of celebrated African Americans.
