Netflix Halloween Horror Recommendations
There are a large array of horror films cast away in the chambers of Netflix, but one can easily get lost trying to find a good one to watch. From freak serial killers to horrific yet realistic accidents, Netflix has it all.
The first film I recommend is Hush, produced in 2016 and directed by Mike Flanagan. It centers around Maddie, a deaf author who has retreated to the woods to write due to feeling isolated. Her deafness creates a unique take on what would be a semi-typical horror movie. It is about a masked man who is outside of her house, and creates somewhat of a game out of trying to kill her. His threat is that he will wait her out and taunt her so much that she will be begging him to kill her by the end of it. The creative and realistic aspects of this movie make it much more intriguing than the average horror flick.
The second one I found was The Uninvited, produced in 2009 and directed by Charles and Thomas Guard. A young girl, Anna, returns home to her father after witnessing her sick mother die in a house fire. When she returns, she finds her father to be in a relationship with her mother’s nurse. Unable to recall the events that led to her mother’s death, Anna experiences flashbacks that clue her in to what happened. She and her sister conclude that her father’s girlfriend was the killer in order to steal her family and would soon kill them, suspecting she was a serial killer. The movie consists of ways the sisters can get rid of the threat and solve the mystery of their mother’s now supposed murder. It ends with a mind-boggling twist that defies the entire plot introduced to the viewers. Its complicated plot is the best part of the movie — its effects are only mediocre.
The third movie I recommend is Final Destination 3. It was produced in 2006 and directed by James Wong. It is a typical horror movie; slightly cheesy and very gory, but the realistic aspects it brings are special. It begins with a group of teenagers at their high school carnival. They make it to the roller coaster and before they go the main character, Wendy, has a vision of her and her surrounding passengers dying. This vision compels her and seven others to get off of the ride. The ride continues after that and her freak prediction comes true. Then, a few months later, people who survive it start dying in other freak accidents. She realizes the clues of how they die are in pictures she took that night for her school yearbook. She then races against time with Kevin (another survivor) by her side to beat fate and save other survivors from their final destination: death. Its classic horror movie qualities with its interesting ideas make it a worthwhile watch.
