Best Rom-Com Tournament

In honor of Valentine’s day, 14 romantic-comedy movies face off in the latest Raptor Bracket Challenge.

With Valentine’s Day approaching soon, and in desperate need of a new tournament/bracket- whatever you want to call it, Nest Network came up with a plan. What’s better than a Rom-Com bracket in honor of the holiday of love?  After several weeks of the tournament, it has been decided that 10 Things I Hate About You is the top rom-com for the Eaglecrest community!

Round 1 Part 1:

To kick off the Bracket we had three matchups that included movies such as The Proposal which ran off with the vote after just a couple of hours, winning by a score of 11-0. Now ‘The Proposal’ was a great movie, and so was ‘The Half of It’ so it very well could’ve been a close match, maybe even the best one to watch of the whole tournament. But a shutout is arguably the worst achievement to get in an R.B.C. bracket, and 11-0 is just downright embarrassing. Either way though, The Proposal moves on. In the match between He’s Just Not That Into You and Notting Hill, both teams at least had some votes but He’s Just Not That Into You would win it 9-2. Now in the other match of the day, Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before tied at 7-7, in a case like this a normal Instagram poll is used, so we can declare a winner in the  Round 1, part 2 recaps. The next four results will be posted on Friday.

Round 1 Part 2:

After the second day of bracket play, we have four new winners, including the tie-breaker results between Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. That one ended with a 58-42% win for To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and they’ll move on as well, claiming the title for biggest upset.

Now for the results that weren’t tie-breakers of the previous matchups. To start, My Big Fat Greek Wedding beat Love Actually by a score of 6-2. Simple case of the higher-seeded movie being the better one.

In the second match of the day, and our second BIG upset, 10 Things I Hate About You beat No Hard Feelings 7-3, though it was somewhat low-scoring, it could be considered a thrashing of a favorite in the match.

In the final of the three, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days shutout He’s All That, in a 9-0 victory.  The 7th seed shutting out a 10th seed is pretty surprising in a match that would usually be a bitter fight to the end, but How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days will move on to face number two-seeded Love, Simon. Voting is expected to run through the weekend and the results and semi-final matchups should be posted Tuesday,  1/30.

Quarter-Finals Recap:

Before today we had eight teams competing for the title of Eaglecrest’s favorite Rom-Com, now that list declined to just four after these matchups. Here are the recaps, which happened to include a little bit of every type of rom-com troupe. To start the day, The Proposal took the lead over My Best Friend’s Wedding and never let go of it, winning 12-2, which takes the title for best upset in the tourney. In the matchup between To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and He’s Just Not That Into You, All the Boys would win by a score of 11-5, a little bit less of a blowout than12-2, but it’s not like it just wasn’t a blowout. On the other side of the bracket number 2 seeded Love, Simon was just barely beaten by How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days by a score of 8-7, the closest matchup that hasn’t gone into overtime so far. During the final matchup of the day 10 Things I Hate About You blew out My Big Fat Greek Wedding in a 14-3 game, and as a result of the matchups, we have two great semi-final matchups. Voting will run till Thursday 2/1 when we will know our final matchup. Go Vote!

Semi-finals Recap:

After a rigorous day of voting, and seeing some of the highest scores we’ve ever seen. Entering with four of the best romcoms, and leaving with just two. Here are the recaps that got us to our finals matchup.

In the first of the two games, The Proposal beat To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 16-8. Crazy fact, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was leading 6-0 at one point, and somehow The Proposal went on a 16-2 run and won the matchup. It is not often that we see a comeback in a bracket matchup since normally there is a clear-cut gap between who is better, the first votes usually go to the winner,

but not this time. The Proposal is in the finals.

Now for the other of the match. In a not-very close matchup between How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and 10 Things I Hate About You. There is no point in declaring it “Not-very close” It was a 21-6 blowout with 10 Things I Hate About You coming out on top. There isn’t much else to say. 21-6 is on the list for the top five biggest blowouts in RBC history.

Now we have a matchup for the ages. The Proposal versus 10 Things I Hate About You, for the title of Eaglecrest’s favorite Rom-Com. Vote for your favorite now! Voting will close on Monday the 5th, so make sure to get your vote in on this legendary matchup.

Finals Recap:

After about 3 weeks of tough battle, determining which rom-com is the best. We are finally ready to crown a champion. The voting started out the same as usual, and by the halfway point (Saturday Afternoon) the score was all even at 5-5. After that, 10 Things I Hate About You would go on a 9-2 run to end it and win the title of Eaglecrest’s Favorite Rom-Com with a final score of 14-7. For The Proposal. It certainly isn’t the end of the road. 2nd favorite is still an achievement. But, at the end of the day, there is one ultimate winner and that was
