Eaglecrest Tears Down the Wolves

Eaglecrest @ Grandview Friday Jan. 22, 2016

The boys basketball team took their 14th win in a row Friday, Jan. 22 against the Grandview Wolves. Despite Grandview’s early lead in the first quarter (10-5), Eaglecrest’s defense and relentless aggression eventually stopped the Wolves.

The excitement could be felt throughout the gym as the Eaglecrest crowd made its presence known.

Despite missing Nate Bokol and Josh Walton, Eaglecrest forced sloppy passing and played solid defense to cause several turnovers and keep them in the game.

Coach Olander was extremely proud of his team.

“We just kinda kept playing the way that we always play, and had guys stepped up tonight,” Coach Olander said after the game.

The team didn’t seem to wear down at all. Eaglecrest kept pushing and as the game wore on, their lead increased to as much as 13 points in the 3rd quarter.

The team is pretty tough this year and Olander, head basketball coach for Eaglecrest, attributes it to the “constant battle, battle, battle” of his players.

The constant pressure by the whole Raptor squad wore down Grandview who struggled to maintain possession.

“As long as we defend and rebound and share the basketball, we’re going to stay pretty tough,” Olander said.

A take away by Ikenna Ozor (25) led to a basket and was closely followed by another by Colbey Ross (1). These two plays took what remaining energy Grandview had away.

However, with four minutes left in the fourth Grandview showed a bit of life, but Eaglecrest’s lead was never cut to single digits.

The passing and chemistry between the Raptors showed as Ozor finessed his way through traffic and put up points.

After a 45 second game of keep away at the end of the fourth quarter, Eaglecrest celebrated a 57-35 victory.
