On Thursday, March 10, 2022, varsity boys volleyball swung back into full action. Their first game occurred in our very own gym against the Regis Jesuit Raiders. The Raptors started off their season strong by winning their first game against their opponent.

The first set of the night started with intense rallies between the two teams. Soon, the Raptors decided to step up their game and won the first set with a drastic score of 25-15.

Soon enough, the second set started – this set was not an easy win for the Raptors. The battle between the Raptors and Raiders was fierce. During this set, there were never-ending rallies that occurred. The scores between the two teams were neck to neck, but the Raptors ultimately took the win with a score of 25-20.

Even though the second set was fiercely competitive, the Raptors stayed strong and defeated the Raiders. The Raptors ended the third set strong with a ten-point lead of 25-15 against their opponent.

After boys volleyball won all three sets, the Raptors were ecstatic for their first win of the season. Junior Eaglecrest spectator Estub Worku was thrilled for the team.

“Because I play volleyball, I like to watch other [volleyball] games so I can learn from them. That’s why I went to the game [on Thursday], and just to have a good time with my friends. I’m really proud of the boys for winning their first game of the season. They are a really good team and have a lot of potential. So you should come and support them,” said Worku.

Not only did the Raptors think the team did well, Defense Specialist Cikeng Lee believed that their first game was a good start to their season.

“I think we did great overall because we didn’t make a lot of mistakes. I felt really good about [our first game],” said Lee. “We are going to win state this year!”
