Is State Testing Really Important?

Is state testing useful for students? Or is it just an utter waste of time?  Well on Wednesday, October 13th, students had state testing. Some students think state testing is great and will help them get into collage , but others disagree — they think state testing is simply just a waste of time and theirs no point.

Now that testing is starting we must be quiet when we are in the hallways (Alex Brandon)

Let’s get down to the basics of why we even need to do state testing.

Statewide testing helps ensure all public school students receive a quality education, no matter where they go to school because they are measured to equal standards. Test results are one piece of information about how your student is doing in school, and testing also helps the state know if teachers are doing their job and teaching the students correctly.

As we all know, some students are not great test takers and the result of this can be frustrating or even for some students, can make them feel like they’re behind and or that they are dumb, which is more than likely not the case. State testing can be very stressful and so many questions can be seen as hard and or impossible to answer.

“I feel like state testing is important because it does let you know how you’re doing in your classes but I’m not gonna study for it,” Sophomore Jelani Saulsberry stated.

Another sophomore, Cruz Padilla, agreed, stating, “State testing is important because colleges can notice how you do and you can get scholarship money because of these. So yes, state testing is important to me .”

Joseph Cooks-Cambell also believed state testing is and will continue to be very important. “I believe state testing is very important. I think everyone should take it seriously because you can have a good reputation with good scores.”

Now that state testing is starting that means also a tone of studying to do.

After talking to multiple EHS students about state testing it seems as state testing is important and can help you get into collage and possibly receive scholarships.
