After 4 years trying, Davis Bryant finally achieved the first place state championship win in golf on October 3rd, 2017. Bryant had been playing and trying to get this title since his freshman year. Sophomore year he placed 12th, followed by junior year where he placed 2nd, finishing with a 1st place win his senior year. Bryant won his senior year with a 2 stroke lead.

   Bryant knew that he had the win before he got to it. He was up by 3 shots with 2 holes left meaning all he had to do was par off for the last 2 holes and hope that Dillon Stewart from Fossil Ridge wouldn’t get birdies (1 under par). Fortunately enough that played through. Bryant was able to make it through the whole championship without a single bogey (1 more than par). He was put up by 2 in the finals playing with 16 pars and 2 birdies.

   Bryant believes that even though he won the championship, his competitors played very strongly. He pointed out that both Dillon Stewart from Fossil Ridge and Cal McCoy from Regis Jesuit played well and definitely deserve recognition. Bryant notes that Stewart and McCoy helped him become a better golfer by playing with him so much in and out of the leagues. He didn’t want to leave anyone out stating that all of the other competitors were, “really great people, and made it definitely more enjoyable.”

   Overall the season went really well and he won his first few tournaments. Bryant stated, “this year was the best.” Throughout the season Bryant felt that he always played his best yet he continued to work on improving his game. In his last match, Bryant tried his best but didn’t think that it was is his best game.

   While Bryant put in the work and won the title he still believed that it wasn’t only his work that got him there. Bryant stated that his parents helped offer him and his sister opportunities for growth. In addition, Bryant stated that his sister deserves some credit as she helped push him and helped out by giving him someone else to play against and practice with.

   Bryant thanks both Coach Adams as well as Coach Olander. They both pushed him to become better and pushed him through his tournaments. Bryant pointed out his aunts, uncles, and grandparents that were all there for him. Bryant stated that he, “doesn’t know how much longer I have with them, but it was cool still having them there for the event.” Bryant also thanks the coaches at CSU for helping him during off-season and he can’t wait to play for them next year. Finally, Bryant is grateful for his friends who all kept texting him and checking in on how he was doing.
