Mrs. Lovett (played by Lauren Noble) and Sweeney Todd (played by Jalen Martin) become unlikely partners as Sweeney needs to dispose of bodies and Mrs. Lovett needs meat for her pies.

Eaglecrest Theatre is back with a riveting new musical. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is set in 19th century England, and surrounds the return of barber, Sweeney Todd (played by Jalen Martin) as he searches for revenge on a judge who sentenced him to 15 years in exile. He joins forces with Mrs. Lovett (played by Lauren Noble), a local baker who laments about the scarcity of meat in London and uses the bodies of Sweeney’s victims in her pies.

Sweeney Todd (played by Jalen Martin) discovers an opportunity to seek revenge on the corrupt judge who exiled him.

The musical is full of intense twists and turns as the audience follows Sweeney on his quest for revenge.

It’s a unique move for the theatre department, as everything from the set design to the choreography is extremely intricate.

Beggar Woman (played by Sarah Jenkins) is a comic relief character who didn’t do any dancing, but had very specific choreography that added personality and depth.

“It’s a big complex set, and it was challenging from actors to tech to pit orchestra.” junior Riley Cox said.

Anthony Hope (played by Matthew Stephens) served as Sweeney Todd’s unlikely friend, but ends up moving the plot in an essential and life-changing direction for Todd.

An exceptional quality of the musical is how the characters manage to be humorous and the audience falls in love despite their dark and chaotic nature.

“The dark humor and how crazy the show is what makes it most unique,” sophomore Shea Greenberg said.

Audiences are in for a treat with this absurd and fanatical musical featuring musical numbers large and small, as well as guest appearances from some of Eaglecrest’s favorite teachers.

“It’s definitely not your traditional high school show,” Cox said.
