The Return of Ocean
The “Thinkin Bout You” star, Frank Ocean, has made his return with a second studio album Blond which dropped August 20th. Ocean has teased fans with a new album for four years now, making it highly anticipated.
The album has 17 songs, each with a fresh sound. With producers and writers featuring Pharrell Williams, Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Kim Burrell, it was destined to be great but falls short.
Despite the fact some of my peers love it, I can not get into as much as they can. If the album would include some more personal songs close to Ocean or more positive messages I think I could give it a 10/10. Blond is still decent for the common R&B listeners.
The album is enjoyable—a new sound for a new generation.
A surprise track of the album called “Be Yourself” has Ocean’s mom talking about not doing drugs, staying away from weed, and being a leader and not a follower. It provided a unique and positive spin on controversial topics. Another track with a different concept from Ocean was “Pink + White,” which talks about glory from above and how great God is. It has a soulful, clean, beautiful vibe to it.
Don’t be surprised as the first song that you’ll hear called “Nike” delivers the weirdly good sound that summarizes the whole entire album. Overall, each track gives a different taste to the music that we can expect from Ocean and other aspiring artists in the future due to the fact that originality is key in today’s music industry.
