Varsity Cheer Takes State
For the first time in seven years, varsity cheer won State. The team prevailed over 35 other cheer teams from around the state and will continue their competitions at Nationals later this school year.
After a tough loss last year due to an injury, it was amazing for the team to come back this year and win.
“It finally paid off because. We thought we were going to win state [last] year,” junior Darian Boss said. “We were all devastated. It was just amazing to come back and take state.”
This win sets the stage for a good majority of the team, since the team will only lose eight seniors at the end of the year. Freshmen Sophie Vigil and Lauren Pacheco, both fliers, can carry this work ethic through for another three years of competition.
“I think next year a lot of people will want to try out,” Vigil said. “It’ll only get better.”
With the National Championships coming soon, the team received a significant boost in morale and confidence.
“It’s made us a lot more optimistic for Nationals,” junior Amber Rummel said. “We have this huge goal and now we feel like it’s obtainable.”
