Ding Dong Ditch
Ding dong ditch usually happens to houses. But in this case, it happened to senior classes on Friday, November 11.
Senior ditch day has long been an infamous tradition at EHS. A tradition where seniors ditch on a designated day, most seniors were willing to participate, but others were hesitant. This year, senior ditch day occurred on Friday, November 11, 2021.
Senior Cameron Wilson participated in this tradition because he felt that it was necessary to be a part of it. He believes that having a day for seniors to ditch gives them a chance to catch up on work and allows them to have a break from school because senior year is stressful.
“I think it’s cool to have a senior ditch day. I feel like it’s a great way for seniors to have a day to themselves and have time to hang out with friends. We can use this day to let our minds go loose. I hung out with friends who also ditched and had fun with them. I also did some other school work and had the whole day to myself to rest my mind from school,” said Wilson.
For Wilson, he only had three classes on Friday, so missing school wasn’t a big deal for him. “I have stellar astronomy, history, and a business class. These classes aren’t really hard unless you make them hard,” said Wilson.
While some seniors didn’t have hard classes on Friday, other students did. Senior Hanna Barrios ditched on Friday and missed some of her hardest classes.
“I had an off, student council, AP Psychology, and AP Statistics. Those are the hardest classes that I have. And we had a test on Friday in AP Stat, so I’ll see what I can do to make it up,” said Barrios. Even though Barrios missed out on a test, she viewed senior ditch day as an opportunity to spend quality time with friends and complete more college applications.
“I got some more college apps done and went out with some friends. We went out to eat breakfast. Personally, for me, this year has been kind of rough. So I think it’s a nice break that we can have. And I think it’s a good break in between the two semesters since we get two ditch days this year,” said Barrios. She explained that she was grateful for the ditch day because it provided an opportunity for her to recharge mentally and physically.
Even though senior ditch day allowed seniors to catch up on other things, some seniors couldn’t afford to miss their classes. Senior Ahn Tran was part of the seniors who didn’t ditch school on Friday.
“I didn’t ditch because I had two tests, and it honestly wasn’t worth it. I had a quiz in Pharmacy Technician at CCIC and in Spanish,” said Tran. But if it was any other day she would have ditched without hesitation.
“I think it’s pretty cool that it’s something all seniors do. But I think that it wasn’t a good day to plan it because there were so many things going on and everyone had a test in their classes,” said Tran.
While some seniors used senior ditch day to recharge mentally and physically from school, others chose to stay at school because they didn’t have the desire to make up school work. But after all, senior ditch day is something exciting that seniors can participate in, and it makes their last year of high school memorable.
