Bryant plays in Nature Valley Tournament
Davis Bryant competed in a prestigious Golf Tournament in California
In late September, sophomore Davis Bryant competed in a national golf tournament alongside some of golf’s greatests, like Vijay Singh. The Nature Valley First Tee Open, held in Pebble Beach, CA, catered to both professionals, amateurs and juniors as part of the First Tee program.
“It was nice because I had the confidence to compete at the highest level and do my best to succeed and play as well as I could,” Bryant said.
The course was very rigorous and had many challenges, especially for junior competitors. The places where the bunkers (sand traps) were placed made it very difficult on the green to navigate the ball.
Bryant unfortunately didn’t make the cut in the juniors section while on the course for the first two days. The third day he competed on a course making tenth place with the other cut junior players.
“You have to put in effort to get results and be successful for anything, or in this case, golf.” Davis said. He tries to use the experience to better improve himself as well as help out some of the more inexperienced players on the team with him. The two biggest things are improving your confidence and learning how to effectively practice.
He’s already one of the top golfers our school has ever seen–but he’s not stopping there.
“I’m setting my goals high so I can achieve better things as I get older,” Bryant says.
His short term goals are to reach top five or win the state tournament. Even further into the future he plans to make it onto the PGA tour. He’s using the experience he is getting now to get prepared for his long future with golf.
