“Get Out” to the Movies
The Get Out Film hit theaters this past weekend. On a budget of just $4.5 million, the film has already accumulated over $37 million.
The film was written and directed by Jordan Peele. Peele got his stardom on the hit t.v. show Key & Peele. Get Out stars upcoming actor and actresses: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, and Lil Rel Howery. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out here.
The movie is about a man named Chris Washington(Kaluuya) who is in an interracial relationship, and he decides to go along with his girlfriend,Rose Armitage(Williams), to visit her parents. At the parents house, Chris notices somethings and hears somethings that sound suspect, like he shouldn’t be there. Ignoring the signs because he loves his girlfriend, it takes him on a crazy rollercoaster ride in a house with a neo surgen and therapist. Meanwhile, Chris’ best friend,Rod(Howery), a TSA agent, is house watching for Chris, and he suspects that something is wrong with the family, like they kidnap black people due to what Chris has told them. Chris brushes that theory off. When the Armitage’s other family members come into town. Things get even crazier.
When I saw the movie last weekend, I was very impressed. The trailer didn’t give away too much and it had many twists and turns. I would describe the movie as a thriller with some comedy complementing it.
The movie hinted at a few problems that are going on with society as well as people race wise. Some people may catch most of them and others won’t. Without giving too much away, there are some that are there when former president Obama is mentioned, or when one of the characters eats/drinks her fruit loops and milk separately, when some of the family members talk about black people, and even the one Asian man in the film all hinted at things involved with race and race culture. There are some others, but I don’t want to give too much away.
Once you’re done seeing the movie, look up some of the info that you missed. Some of it will leave you “shook” because of what you didn’t catch the first time around.
I’m not the only one who was impressed with it. The movie has a 99% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes(it had a 100% approval over the weekend). Audiences gave it an 89%.
If you’re free this weekend or any day, “Get Out” and go see it. You won’t be disappointed.
