To kickoff the 2024 season, the Eaglecrest girls basketball team would play Rocky Mountain at home. The team fought through 32 minutes of regulation and another 8 minutes of overtime to make the final score 70-69, with them just barely losing to Rocky Mountain.
“Our energy, work ethic, and togetherness was really strong,” said head coach Robby Gabrielli.
Despite the loss, the Raptors scored 69 points and looked great all night. Multiple people on the team scored double digit points including senior Jada Bobb with 19, freshman Avery Jones with 12, and the leading scorer sophomore Kaydence Waymire with 22 points. The team worked together all night combining for 17 total assists, with Jada Bobb leading the team with 5.
The defense also had bright spots all game to follow the stellar performance on the offensive side. Senior Jada Bobb had 4 and Junior Adaure Ozor had 5 defensive rebounds. The team had 18 defensive rebounds total, partnered with 23 steals. Junior Adaure Ozor led the team with 7 steals and freshman Avery Jones and junior Naomi Emechta both had 4.
“Our defense played well, but we need to stay consistent the whole game,” said senior Jada Bobb.
In the third quarter, the Raptors held Rocky Mountain to a low of 10 points and outscored them by 7 points, scoring 17. All of the other quarters they were outscored, 45-38.
“It is truly to be surrounded by a team that supports each other,”8 said senior Jada Bobb.
Despite the loss, the team is looking forward to becoming more connected and working together to have a great season.
