This year’s fall fest occured on October 25th. Fall fest is always an event that EHS students and future raptors look forward to. The school is decorated with lights, fake cobwebs, balloons, ribbons, and banners to get people in the halloween spirit. Kids get to come and show off the costumes that they’re going to wear trick or treating, which can be creative and handmade, spooky and startling, or adorable and heartwarming. Festive songs blare through the halls and get people moving and grooving while nearly every club at EHS manages a booth where their members run a variety of different games or activities that kids play in order to gain candy! Fall fest is the perfect opportunity for families to come together and enjoy a thrilling evening.
“It shows the community we care about them and how we get everyone involved in different activities,” said sophomore Quinn Chambers.
Fall Fest represents EHS in a very positive way. It shows that our staff and students are more of a family than anything else, as we join forces to prepare, clean up, and host an exciting event for the future members of our school. We want to show the kids and their parents that EHS is a safe, loving, and welcoming place where they can be themselves and live every moment to their fullest. EHS students are able to socialize and provide for whatever club they may be participating in in order to improve their college resumes and become an involved student. However, our students are not the only ones getting involved, as they ensure that members of the community surrounding EHS feel involved in some of our school’s spirit and pride, which is why we hold family friendly gatherings like this. We spread our love to the world in a variety of different ways through fall fest, whether that’s us donating hundreds of cans of food to those in need, or organizing a lively evening of festivities for those who wish to attend.
EHS puts on plenty of functions throughout the school year. At the beginning of the year, the Raptor Rally gets students pumped up for the success filled year that awaits them. Along with that, we have plenty of games, assemblies, and hoco week activities, such as the hoco parade, and the spirit bus, which buses our marching band, mascot, cheerleaders and dance team, and other sports teams and club member to most of our feeder schools to show their students and staff what being a raptor really means. However, fall fest is one of the most critical ones, as it marks the changing of the seasons and opens doors to new opportunities for all.
“I think that it’s an important event because everyone gets to connect and show some school pride,” said junior Sierra Lopez.
At fall fest, new relationships are constantly growing. Parents are able connect with their
children on a deeper level, since they can finally grasp an understanding of what their day to day life looks like at school, and what their school’s culture is like. EHS teachers and students learn new ways to expand their clubs while they build their relationships as friends, instead of just keeping everything strictly professional. EHS students also get to spend some time bonding with their friends and classmates, which can always be beneficial, as a lot of students are tired from studying, athletics, performing arts, or whatever other activities they may be involved in. They are often in need of a social battery recharge, and fall fest gives it to them. Our students occasionally attend fall fest with their younger siblings, and are animated to show them around their school and give them an idea of what high school will be like. These connections are crucial, as they can last a lifetime!
Although fall fest may just be seen as a good time, there are other reasons as to why it is so significant. The entry fee to the festival is at least one can of food. We have 2 gint boxes at the entrance to the school where attendees drop off their goods. These cans of food go to food banks. We want to ensure that some families that can not afford to prepare complete, nutritious, homecooked meals can eat as well as some of the more more fortunate families. They are very appreciative of our donations, as they have the ability to turn a couple of dull nights into warm and cheerful ones. DECA runs these donation boxes and take care of importing the cans to the different food banks.
Fall fest is a fun-filled environment that we recommend you attend every year that you can, as you are sure to make heart warming memories and walk away feeling pleased with yourself, knowing that you did something to help the impecunious.
