For week five of the football season, the Eaglecrest Raptors faced the ThunderRidge Grizzlies in which the Raptors won 26-8. The passing offense was a lot more prominent this week putting up over 260 passing yards this week, partnered with another very strong performance from the defense.
“We started firing early and it worked, so we kept letting it fly in the air,” said senior Wide Receiver Kota Becker.
Kota Becker had led the team in touchdowns this game with 2 and 63 passing yards. Kota scored the final touchdown in the game to put Eaglecrest up 26-0 and seal the game for the Raptors. Burke Withycombe led the team in receiving yards with 118, including a 53 yard touchdown reception late in the third quarter. The Grizzlies could not stop the pass, so the offense kept letting it fly.
“We used their own momentum against them,” said sophomore Running Back Josiah Assibey.
It was ThunderRidges’ Homecoming game, so the Grizzlies were firing full force to not let their student section down. The Raptors used all of the excitement to fuel them in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.
“The defense just works together as a team and we always play a complete game,” senior Linebacker Nico Defusco
The defense put up another stagnant performance with the defensive line getting 5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. Eaglecrest only let up one score all game late in the fourth quarter for the final score being 26-8.
