To wrap up homecoming week, the Eaglecrest football team took on the Denver East Angels, where they came out victorious with the score of 17-7. The rushing attack carried the offense in this game with almost 300 rushing yards from the entire team.
“The passing game just wasn’t working and we had to change it up,” said senior Quarterback Joe Steiner.
Steiner led the team with 191 rush yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 76 yard rushing touchdown that sealed the game late in the 4th quarter. Josh Wiley and Kota Becker were both heavily involved with the rushing game, as they both went for over 30 yards to help move the ball all game. The Angels could not stop the run all game, so the offense kept hammering it.
“We saw their D-line was getting tired so we kept hammering the ball because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” said receiver coach Josh Steiner.
The Raptor defense was relentless all game, not giving East a break. Defensive Back Cameron Bell had a crucial interception late in the fourth quarter to put the offense in the perfect position to kick the go-ahead field goal to go up 10-7.
“The defense had to face a lot of adversity and had to be connected to make adjustments to help win this game,” said senior linebacker Ramadje Owens.
Ramadje Owens led the team in total tackles and tackles for loss which helped give the rest of the defense a boost and lock down the Angels’ offense. Eaglecrest defense kept the East offense to 55 rush yards to neutralize them on the ground and force them to pass.
With less than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the defense forced the Angels into a 4 and long and made them attempt a field goal. Javon Jones blocked the game tying field goal and let Eaglecrest keep the lead.
