Use that Weekend

Using the weekends to Survive.

With just a few more weeks until summer these last few weeks are going to pass slower than snails on ice cubes. Spring fever is hitting students like a laundry bag full of toasters. Hard. School work and extracurriculars have been grinding your gears for a while and nothing sounds better than a nap.

We have the perfect opportunity to put those sparkles back in our eyes that school, work, and sports has slowly smothered. Students who make the most of their weekends will come back and finish out the year strong. Where do we invest these few precious days to light our socks on fire for the rest of the year?

Spend time with the good ole family. Make sure you get that quality time in with the people who love you most. Parents are working all week too, but taking a break from the non-stop socializing is important. Try to get home for dinner every night. It will mean the world to your parents and it gives you a great chance to refuel for free.

Be selfish. You need the weekend to ensure your survival of the rest of the year, so spend your time where you need to. If you’re behind in school or just a nerd like me get that school work done and lift that burden from your weary shoulders.

Take naps. Nothing will benefit a weary soldier more than a few brief winks. Whatever you’ve been battling with at this point in the year – maybe pesky squirrels, a crazy raccoon, or just a rude rabbit – naps fix everything. I recommend everyone who ever you are to squeeze one or ten into your weekend.

Go outside. Pop some Allegra D and frolic through a field. Do something you can’t do when you’re at school and breath some fresh air. Those extra ripe pedestrians that you walk behind in the halls aren’t going to follow you home, so get some of that good ole oxygen in your lungs.

Make a memory. You only have a couple years left to act like a kid so go out there and fly a kite or do something absolutely outrageous. The light-pollution has murdered my love of the night sky and nothing really compares to starry, Steamboat nights, but even here the stars come out about 4 am when the city is asleep.

Unplug. You don’t need to be connected all day everyday. Use the weekend as an excuse to get away from your phone. Everyone one needs a break. I find that letting your phone die for a few hours is a great way to watch Netflix undisturbed. Don’t let stress and drama follow you home. Twitter fingers or chicken fingers or chicken nuggets? Ignore those pesky subtweets and have fun. Don’t let anyone ruin your short days away from the constant grind.

Make sure you squeeze every drop out of that plump, juicy, weekend. Everyone can appreciate a fatty, but don’t take it for granted. When Monday rolls back around don’t be discouraged! Just a couple more weeks everyone. Hang in there team.
