The rumors spreading about the closure of Elitch Gardens Theme and Waterpark in 2019 is indeed fake news. Denver city council did approve the development of an apartment complex known as “River Side” that is said to be developed in the same area as Elitches, but Elitches will not be closing soon due to several reasons.

Denver city council is facing countless conflicts based on funding, economy, and demand. Closing a water/ theme park as big as Elitches could potentially cost the city countless dollars. In all, if the city were to move forward with this plan they would start with small renovations like adding car garages or small structures in some parts of the plotted land.

Since the city has many uncertainties, Elitch Gardens has decided to continue the sale of their 2020 season passes and will continue to run the park until told otherwise.

Many think the city would act against this plan, but instead there has been little to no resistance against the idea of closing Elitches. In contrast, many individuals claim that this movement is apart of Denver growing as a city, and meeting the demands of the growing population.

Denver officials have also claimed that they would relocate the amusement park if it were to be shut down, but that in itself would take countless years to not only find new land, but to build the structure from scratch. Denver economically speaking is more than capable of relocating Elitches and maybe even making it larger than it was before. In the end, Denver officials are attempting to keep up with the city’s growth while still persevering this well known amusement park.
